10 Ball Break N Run Rules
10-BALL BREAK AND RUN – SONNY’S BAR
(After-Tournament Drawing Rules)
1. ENTRY & AUTOMATIC ENROLLMENT
* All players who enter the Monday Night 8-Ball Tournament are automatically enrolled in the 10-Ball Break and Run Challenge after they have played in at least two (2) Monday Night 8-Ball tournaments.
* New players (who have not yet played in two 8-Ball tournaments) will only pay $15 for entry and will not be entered into the 10-Ball Challenge until they qualify.
* $5 of each qualified player's entry fee is allocated to the 10-Ball pot.
* Players must be present at the time of the drawing to participate.
2. DRAWING FORMAT
* Selection Method: Players are drawn using the online Wheel of Names.
* All qualified tournament entries are placed on the wheel.
* Spin Duration Determination:
* The winners bracket winner of the 8-Ball Tournament determines the initial spin time (seconds).
* After that, each subsequent drawn shooter sets the time for the next spin.
* The number of players drawn = Total Entries × 20% (rounded to the nearest whole number).
* Example: If 15 qualified players enter, 3 players are drawn.
* Example: If 22 qualified players enter, 4 players are drawn.
3. BREAK & RUN RULES
* Each drawn player gets one chance to break and attempt to run out the 10-Ball rack.
* Legal Break:
* The shooter must strike the 1-ball first.
* At least 4 balls must hit a rail for a legal break.
* 10-Ball on the Break:
* The 10-ball does NOT end the game if made on the break.
* Instead, it counts as a legally made ball and is not spotted.
* The shooter continues with the next lowest-numbered ball.
4. FOULS – AUTOMATIC LOSS
If any of the following fouls occur, the shooter's turn immediately ends in a loss:
* Cue Ball Scratch (cue ball pocketed).
* Failure to Contact the Object Ball First (must hit the lowest-numbered ball).
* Failure to Drive an Object Ball or Cue Ball to a Rail after contact.
* Second Miscue on the Break (first miscue is allowed, but a second results in loss).
* Miscue During Regular Play (except on the break).
* Jumping the Cue Ball Off the Table.
5. SHOOTING RULES
* Players must shoot in rotation, always striking the lowest-numbered ball first.
* Combination Shots Are Allowed, but the shooter must call all non-obvious shots.
* If a player legally pockets all 10 balls in one turn, they win the full 10-Ball pot!
6. HOW TO RACK FOR 10-BALL
* Use a triangle rack to set up the balls.
* Place the 1-ball at the apex (front of the rack) on the foot spot.
* Place the 10-ball in the center of the rack.
* The remaining balls are placed randomly but must be tight with no gaps.
* Ensure all balls are touching for a proper break.
* Carefully remove the rack to avoid disturbing the balls.
7. ROLLOVER POT & BONUS PAYOUTS
* If no player successfully runs out the rack, the pot rolls over to the next week.
* The pot grows weekly until someone successfully completes the Break and Run.
* When the pot reaches $600:
* The following Monday night 8-Ball tournament will receive a $500 added payout.
* The $500 will be added to an 8-Ball Ball-in-Hand Double Elimination Tournament.
* Any amount over $500 stays in the 10-Ball pot for the next week.
* The 10-Ball pot will always carry over at least $100 for the next challenge.
* If someone wins and the pot is over $500, they are paid $500, and the remaining amount stays in the pot for the next week.
8. PLAYER PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENT
* Players must be present at the time of the drawing to participate.
* If a player's name is drawn and they are not present, a new name will be drawn.
